Healthwatch Assembly, 6 December 2017 - Presentations

Planned improvements to the design and delivery of key local services was the topic of our Assembly event in December. Find out more about the key changes happening in our report.

Commissioning (the design and delivery of local health and care services) was the theme of our last Assembly held on the 6 December at St Mary's Church in Putney. Wandsworth CCG told us about their intentions for local NHS services and Wandsworth Council spoke to us about improvements they are hoping to make to home care services.

Key topics covered

  • Our guest speakers were Debbie Baronti (Head of Planning) and Jane French (Commissioning Manager Older People & Integrated Care), from Wandsworth and Merton CCGs respectively. They spoke to us about their plans to improve the health of their residents via local partnerships that will develop and deliver care plans designed to improve the health of those in the borough.

Self-care and self-management were high on the agenda, with a greater focus on keeping people healthy and earlier interventions.

  • Hana Alipour-Mehraban (Commissioning Manager, Older People - Wandsworth and Richmond Councils) gave an update on the councils' plans to recommission home care, also known as 'Home Care'. Among the reasons for the proposed changes, Hana mentioned the need to be able to meet current and future demand, and a desire to improve quality and increase the independence of those receiving home care.

As this project is still in its early stages, Hana outlined the 'next steps' and how local people can get involved.

Our speakers all took questions and will take feedback from attendees to inform their work.
