News from the Healthwatch Wandsworth Assembly - 24 May 2017

At our Assembly in May we covered a variety of mental health topics including local services available. The information presented on the day is available in our report.

Good Mental Health was the theme of our last local Healthwatch Assembly, and this time we held it in Putney, so that residents living on the outskirts of Wandsworth would have a better chance to attend.

Key topics covered

  • Our mental health expert, John Morrill, updated us on what's new in the world of mental health and also touched on the support available to the LGBTQ community.
  • Nicki Ryan from Free2B was also there to promote LGBTQ awareness and how mental health can affect the LGBTQ community.
  • Sue Rolfe from Putney Wellbeing Friends gave a useful presentation on the group and their work with people suffering with mental health problems. Not only is the team trained in mental health first aid, they are also equipped to direct people on to other excellent, but often little known, avenues of support. Please email Sue Rolfe if you would like more information.
  • Lastly we heard from Graeme Markwell, who works with Wandsworth Public Health to promote awareness of suicide and the idea that it is very much preventable if people are able to get help early on.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our speakers and those that attended. Find out about our future events in our events section.
