For better health and social care

Launch of Putney Wellbeing Friends

On 2 December a new scheme was launched at Putney library - Putney Wellbeing Friends. This befriending scheme, which will operate at the library on Wednesday evenings between 6-8pm, aims to help those with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.

It will be run by a team of like-minded local volunteers of different ages and from all walks of life, who are skilled at listening to others. They will offer a confidential and compassionate ear to those seeking help. All members of the team have completed the internationally accredited Mental Health First Aid course.

Information about self-help therapies on managing mood, overcoming worry and stress as well as a wide range of books which include techniques for combating anxiety as well as inspirational works of arts and poetry will be available via the wellbeing hub.

The scheme is funded by Wandsworth Public Health and will work in close collaboration with Putney GPs. Further information is available from scheme co-ordinator Sue Rolfe on 07960 097 370. Alternatively visit the www.care4me.org.uk website.
