South West London Health and Care Partnership are inviting people to apply to become a volunteer patient and/or carer representatives on their new working group.

"We know that 58% of people diagnosed with cancer feel that their emotional needs are not looked after as much as their physical needs (Macmillan, 2006)."

They want to improve the quality of life for those affected by cancer and treat individuals with a “whole person approach” looking after both physical and mental health equally.

Making things better for patients diagnosed with cancer across south west London?

No-one has a greater understanding of services than the people who use them.  Therefore, South West London Health and Care would like to recruit two patient representatives who have been affected by cancer and have used mental health services during and/or after treatment to share their experiences and thoughts on their plans.

They want to hear from you if…

  • You live in South West London (Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Sutton, Richmond, Wandsworth) and have recent experience of using cancer services within South West London.
  • You can commit to meeting every two months for one hour in Wimbledon (this includes attending meetings and reading papers).
  • You are passionate and committed to improving the quality of care for patients of South West London.
  • You have had experience of using cancer services and have accessed psychological support during or after treatment.

All volunteer patient representatives will be offered induction meetings and one to one support.

Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

They are particularly keen to hear from people who can bring the perspective from South West London whose voices are seldom heard in healthcare planning and people who can contribute their strong commitment to equalities and diversity.
