Key Updates:
- CardMedic has been introduced to increase availability of interpreting at St George’s Hospital. CardMedic is a digital library of pre-scripted, pre-translated content replicating common clinical conversations with patients and service users. The scripts can be 'flexed' to multiple language variation, read-aloud, 'easy read' and BSL. See more here.
- Training for midwives on how to work with interpreters (details incoming)
- Language line on wheels (details incoming)
- A recent CQC report on St George’s Hospital maternity services stated that ‘several improvements have been made in routine antenatal care and mental health support.’
- Council staff who work on breastfeeding now regularly meet the breastfeeding mental health nurse.
- NHS England produced a comprehensive review on the infrastructure of the estate that enables maternity and neonatal service delivery across the NHS in England. See more here.
- A video resource clarifying the distinct roles that midwives and doulas play for women and families has been released by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and Doula UK.
