Enter and View visit to Wood House

We visited Wood House Care Home to find out how care is being given to older people. The report is based on what people said and observations during the visit.

What we did

Older people in hospitals and care homes are often vulnerable and are therefore one of Healthwatch Wandsworth's top concerns.

The aim was to use interviews with older people, their relatives and carers, to report on:

1.   The quality of individual care.

2.   The responsiveness of services to individual residents’ needs.

We spoke to eleven residents, three relatives and seven members of staff.

Our findings

Many residents mentioned having their privacy and personal preferences respected as positive aspects of living at Wood House.

Some residents were unhappy with the activities provided, finding them boring or childish.

Relatives were generally happy with the care being provided and found the staff and manager accessible. One relative of a resident felt they could be encouraged to participate more.

Our recommendations

Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made:

  • Review activities, social activity and consider resident's personal interests.
  • Note special meals residents.
  •  Working with older people's mental health team about managing risks.
