Feeling unwell this winter? Visit your nearest Pharmacist for help and advice

The colder weather can aggravate existing health conditions and make us more vulnerable to flu and other respiratory winter illnesses. This is especially true for older people and those with conditions such as COPD, bronchitis, asthma, diabetes or heart and kidney disease.

At the first sign of a winter illness, even if it’s just a cough or a cold, act quickly and seek advice from your pharmacist as soon as possible before it gets more serious. There are 61 pharmacies in Wandsworth and Pharmacists are fully qualified to advise you on the best course of action. If you can’t get to a pharmacist yourself, ask someone to go for you or give them a call.

Pharmacists can give you health advice, without the need for an appointment, on things such as sexual health, stopping smoking or more common health problems. They will also be able to advise you if you need to see a doctor or nurse.

You can talk to your pharmacist in confidence and most pharmacies now have a private consultation area. For details of your nearest pharmacy and opening hours click here.

You can also find out if you're eligible for the flu jab at your local pharmacy. The flu can be far more serious than you think, killing an average of 8,000 people a year. The flu vaccine is free to those who need it, including:

  • People aged 65 and over
  • Those with underlying health conditions
  • Pregnant women
  • Children aged two to nine
