NHS Healthy Aging Guide - Available Now!

Being able to stay healthy in later life is crucial for all of us. Often older people don't feel they have the tools to care for themselves, which can have a negative impact on their life. This new guide could be helpful.

Looking back, I can see I’ve been a bit worried about myself for a while. It’s not as though I was ill or anything, but just a feeling that I’ve sort of slowed down – things being more of an effort... So I checked out the guide and sure enough found I needed new glasses, and the hearing aid has been a real boon... All-in-all, feel I’m back in control again.

Get the most out of your later years

NHS England, in partnership with other organisations, has published a Practical Guide to Healthy Ageing, designed to help people who are getting older to stay physically and mentally well. The Guide provides hints and tips on how to keep fit and stay independent and recognises that, with the right know-how, we can all do things to improve our own health and wellbeing.

The guide includes:

  • Try at home tests
  • Chapters on looking after yourself and keeping active
  • How to manage medications and vaccinations
  • Preventing falls
  • Creating an action plan

Free copies of the guide are available to local care and health organisations.
