What do You Think of Our Mental Health Social Workers?
In November 2015 the South West London & St George's (SWLSTG) Mental Health Trust's social work teams were reorganised under direct Council management. The reorganisation was intended, among other things, to improve service to clients. Since the restructure, Healthwatch Wandsworth has been closely monitoring the performance of the department, and the effect on service users.
Although Wandsworth Social Services has assured us that the reorganisation has reduced the time taken to complete social care assessments for new clients, the available data suggests that the social work teams have not yet been able to meet their target of completing 60% of assessments within 45 working days. This means that some people are having to wait for long periods for an initial assessment. We have received assurances from Wandsworth Social Services that clients who have been waiting for more than 28 days for their initial assessment are contacted every two weeks, and that risk assessments are carried out to prioritise people who may need more urgent assistance.
However, to get a complete picture, we'd really like to hear from anyone who has personal experience of dealing with Wandsworth's mental health social work team.
